The Chong Boon School Rules...What Are Your Views On Them?
Firstly, the rule about mobile phones in school, the rule in the school diary states that electronics like mobile phones are strictly prohibited on school premises and if confiscated, it can only be claimed by parents. However that was overruled by students as they managed to list out the points of why mobile phones should be brought to school. Therefore the rule was amended and students were then allowed to bring mobile phones to school as long as they were not being seen or heard. But i still feel that this ruled should be amended till students are allowed to bring mobile phones but can only be used after school hours. Because imagine if the students' parents were worried about the children's whereabouts of school activities after school, it would be such a hassle to call the school general office and ask fro the receptionist to go around looking your your child to answer the phone. All this could be avoided and less work will be given to the general office by just calling your child's mobile phone.
Next, the rules about behaviour. I feel that this rule is very appropriate because nowadays students are becoming more defiant and unbecoming. This rule will definitely teach the students to become a thinking +and gracious citizen because if the students continuously repeated their mistakes, they will never learn despite the harsh consequences given. Sometimes these cases happen due to their families. If the parents do not pay enough attention to their child, they could easily go astray but some students definitely do not want to go astray but are forced maybe because their parents do not pay any attention to them at all, and in order to get attention, they break the school rules.
However, there is a respectable view about the rule about mobile phones. Most of them include the teachers and parents. The teachers and parents are afraid that if the mobile phones are being brought to school, they might start using it during curriculum time sending text messages. But this behaviour is not the student's fault. As parents, their responsibility is to also teach their kids to be a good and obedient child other then having the school to do it for them because of the excuse which many parents give which is 'No Time!'. This is wrong because only the parents will be able to have an effect on their child's life. I can strongly assure that if the teachers are the ones doing the job, the students will definitely not comply with the rules.
Therefore, the school rules of Chong Boon Secondary school are still pretty handy at times except for a few of them because surely every parent would want their child to do well in their studies and become a thinking and gracious citizen. Since we are given the chance to slowly become a thinking and gracious citizen from young, we should therefore cherish it before it is too late.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is the first day of the lunar calendar, so it is also called the Lunar New Year. And it is also referred to as the Spring Festival since it is the beginning of the Spring term, which is the first term of the 24 terms on the lunar calendar. The Chinese New Year begins on January 28, 1998. Every year represents an animal. This is the year of the rat. Chinese New Year is the most important and longest holiday in
In the past, there used to be a saying Bringing in the New Year and Expelling The Old. That saying is still being used until today. On the eve of Chinese New Year, shooting off firecrackers is the Chinese way of sending out the old year and welcoming in the New Year. On the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, every door in the house, and even windows, have to be open to allow the old year to go out. There is also another belief that all debts had to paid by this time. Nothing should be lent on this day, as anyone who does so will be lending all the year. Back when tinder and flint were used, no one would lend them on this day or give a light to others. During the preparation for Chinese New Year, it starts a month before the new year, which includes thoroughly cleaning and decorating the house, buying new clothes, preparing enough food for at least two weeks. The decorations are highly symbolic with a lot of lucky words, printed paintings and red colors everywhere. Everyone gets a haircut before the new year. So everything and everyone looks new and fresh on the new year which symbolizes a new starts. The biggest event of any Chinese New Year's Eve is the dinner every family will have. A dish consisting of fish will appear on the tables of Chinese families. It is for display for the New Year's Eve dinner. After the dinner, some families go to local temples, hours before the new year begins to pray for a prosperous new year; however in modern practice, many households hold parties and even hold a countdown to the new lunar year. Giving Hongbao or red packets during Chinese new year is another tradition. A Red packet is simply a red envelope with money in it, which symbolizes luck and wealth. Red packets are typically handed out to younger generation by their parents, grand parents, relatives, and even close neighbors and friends.
On the first day of Chinese New Year, it is a time when families visit the oldest and most senior members of their extended family, usually their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents. When visiting a house or family for Chinese New Year, it is tradition for the family to display a spread of chinese delicacies for the guests to eat. These delicacies includes mandarin oranges, melon seeds, nian gao which is also known as new year cake, and lastly roasted barbecue pork also known as bakkwa. The second day of the Chinese New Year is for married daughters to visit their birth parents. Traditionally, daughters who have been married may not have the opportunity to visit their birth families frequently. On the second day, the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as to all the gods. They are extra kind to dogs and feed them well as it is believed that the second day is the birthday of all dogs. The third and fourth day of the Chinese New Year are generally accepted as inappropriate days to visit relatives and friends due to the following schools of thought.
There are many superstitions for Chinese New Year. In order to receive good luck, the windows and doors of a household must be open. Switching on the lights for the night is considered good luck to 'scare away' ghosts and spirits of misfortune that may compromise the luck and fortune of the new year. Sweets are eaten to ensure the consumer a "sweet" year. However the are also many taboos to Chinese New Year. They are believed to bring bad luck. Everyone should refrain from using foul language and bad or unlucky words. Negative terms and the word "four", or "si" in Chinese which sounds like the word for death, are not to be uttered. Death and dying are never mentioned and ghost stories are totally taboo. Sweeping the floor is usually forbidden on the first day, as it will sweep away the good fortune and luck for the new year. The use of knives and scissors -- indeed any sharp instrument -- is to be avoided, for these things could augur bad luck in the coming year. Buying books is bad luck because the word for "book" is a homonym to the word "lose". Avoid clothes in black and white, as black is a symbol of bad luck, and white is a traditional funeral colour.
So basically Chinese New Year is very popular and being celebrated in many parts of the world because it marks a new beginning not just for the chinese but for everyone. More importantly, the meaning of Chinese New Year is to get together with family members with friends and just have a good time.

My Experience On The Singapore Flyer
"On the 7th of March 2008, did you all know that you all will be going on the Singapore Flyer? " said Mr Wong. The whole class was shocked to hear such great news. Since then, i became very excited about the field trip. Many people had great expectations of the Singapore Flyer. My expectation was to see the whole of Singapore if possible and maybe some parts of Indonesia and Malaysia. When we reached the location of the Singapore Flyer which was in the heart of the city, the building looked very modern and it has that smell of new paint. From my view, the Flyer looked huge and prominent. Despite the slight drizzle upon our arrival, nothing kept us away from this joyous occasion and the uproar of the students' chatter could be heard.
Before we went on the Flyer, the cacophony of the students' nervousness and excitedness could be heard during the security check. When we finally got into the capsule, we stared in wonderment as the capsule looked and modern and spick and span. Two of the students, Rasheed and Kenny had butterflies in their stomach as they were victims of Acrophobia. When the capsule finally reached it highest point, the scenic view was breath-taking and panoramic. One of the many landscapes that i saw was the Marina Reservoir which was pretty new and still under construction. The grass displayed a spread of cleaniness and smoothness of the grass which was almost identical to the grass on a golf course. The time allocated was just nice to see most of the famous landscapes in Singapore. If the flight was taken at night, the view would definitely be almost ten times better. Although my expectation of the ability to see the whole of Singapore was not met but the trip up to the flyer was definitely worth it.
In the capsule, many hilarious incidents occurred. The one worth mentioning was when Rasheed was so afraid that he was about to pee in his pants when the capsule reached the highest point. He didn't even dare to speak to us as he was afraid that we would do something to freak him out. It set most of the boys into laughter.
Out of this whole trip, it was definitely worth going. If i had the opportunity to go on it again, i definitely would and i would recommend to all my family and friends

Technology-A Threat Or A Promise
Everything on earth has its own good and bad points. Technology is no exception. Nowadays automobiles are so advanced and popular, that the demand for them is on the rise. When being used, they produce harmful gases like carbon monoxide. Carbon Monoxide is a type of greenhouse gas which contributes greatly to global warming and climatic changes which causes our environment to be severely harmed. Therefore we should encourage the public to conserve the environment. Therefore technology is definitely a promise rather than a threat.

Has The Internet Done Us Harm Or Good ?
Firstly, the internet is a convenient source of information because it makes a person's life easier by a click on a link through the internet. The internet has other advantages like online streaming television and online purchases. If you had missed any of your favourite television shows, you can always view them on streaming video websites at your own time. These sites allows you download the contents of the video either for free or for just a small fee. For those people who enjoy shopping but are always busy or even lazy to leave the house, they can go virtual shopping. Items like books, music, movies and even tickets like concert or air tickets can be bought with just a click of the mouse. The most common method of payment is by credit card and it is a relatively safe way to pay for purchases.
Secondly the internet is very advanced as there capabilities like online databases, email, internet-relay chat or also known as IRC and educational information for homework, research or projects which can be easily obtained. Online databases are websites which allows users to upload there files onto the internet to save space on their computer or to share their files with other people like friends and family and the file uploaded can be downloaded by anyone anytime so that you don't have to go a friend's or cousin place just to get the file. Once the file is being uploaded a link will be given to find the file can it can be downloaded straightaway. Email is short for Electronic Mail where users can send mail through the internet almost immediately which is very convenient and fast and it is also free which explains why email is so popular nowadays. Internet-Relay chat is a program which allows people to send messages to the recipient and be replied immediately but it is only possible if the other person is also online and it also free and very popular because it is very useful and saves the people talking online money as they won't have to call each other or send text messages through their phones which is pretty costly if it is being used frequently. The internet contains many educational information which can help students with their projects very conveniently cause there are websites which are search engines which shows results about anything that has to do with what you typed in the search box and the most relevant result is always shown first.
Lastly, there are websites where the news can be viewed and online forums. Online forums are websites which allows people to share information. On such forums, you can also ask any kind of question or post your views about a certain topic that you like because the internet is accessible world-wide and widely popular because it maintains your anonymity. It is quite impossible to get complete information because there are many people with accounts using false identity. News websites nowadays keeps people updated with what is going on around the world and locally it is very convenient. For example, businessmen who travel frequently can receive news at anytime and anywhere. Let's say you are from Singapore and you travel to another country like England for a business trip, The New Paper or The Strait Times may not be easily available so websites like these are created so that people can know about what is going on around the world.
There is a respectable view that the internet has done us more good than harm. It is suggested that online purchases are not safe because they will require you to type in personal particulars like name, address and credit card numbers. There is a risk where there is a hacker on the internet who manages to capture those particulars or if the website happens to be a hoax. therefore, we must excercise caution and should always purchase from a trusted website. It is also suggested that the internet has been abused by teenagers by viewing and downloading pornography. It is the duty of the parents to teach their kids well and always supervise them when they are using the computer. Parents can further monitor their children's usage of the internet by enabling restrictions on the computer or even download an Anti-Pornography software to block all kinds of pornography which is shown on the internet.
I still agree that the internet has done us more good than harm. The internet is like a free world which means anything is allowed to go on the internet good or bad but people must be able to differentiate the good from the bad or else there is more harm than benefits. If people still feel that the internet has done more harm, then the government should control the materials going onto the internet in their country. If the government is involved, then there is sure to be less harmed caused on the internet. In the end, more and more people will come to realize that the internet has definitely done much more good than harm.

An Interesting Incident During The Holidays
During the last three weeks of the December holidays last year, as usual, I was just lazing around the couch with the remote changing the channel on the television, until the door opened with a bang and my parents came into the living room excitedly with five envelopes in their hands. They had the Singapore Airlines logo on it, so i immediately snatched the envelopes and open one...it was a ticket to Hong Kong. I jumped for joy when i saw the destination. I was always looking forward forward to go to Hong Kong but i thought i was probably asking a tad too much from my parents but they completely took me by surprise especially with the number of tickets cause there were only three members in my family so there were two extra. My mum said that my aunt and my cousin would be accompanying us to Hong Kong this week and it was also a reward for studying so hard all these years. At that moment i just felt so happy and panicky cause we were leaving by Friday and my bags weren't even packed
Finally Friday came and i was so excited to leave for Hong Kong. At about 5pm we reached the airport and started to check in. The flight was scheduled to leave at 7.30pm so since we had so much time on our hands we decided to walk around the shops in the airport. the clock was ticking away and it was finally 7.30 pm. by 7.45pm we were already seated in our seats comfortably accept that it felt a little warm cause the air-conditioners have not been turned on. A minute a announcement sounded and the pilot asked everyone to leave the plane in an orderly fashion cause there were some technical problems with the air-conditioners.
When the passengers heard the announcement, they all sighed cause everyone was probably already seated in their seats and ready to take off. So we had no choice but to get off the plane. We had to go back to the waiting area and wait for the announcement to get back on the plane. Time was passing by so slowly and the passengers got so restless and hungry so food was being given out to the passengers at the waiting area. Finally at 9.45 there was an announcement for us to get back on the plane. Everyone was so relieved when they heard thew good news cause we had to wait for about two and a half hours. By 10pm the plane took off and we were scheduled to arrive at Hong Kong at 1am.
The next day, we finally reached Hong Kong at about 1.15am. We immediately collected our luggages and checked out and took a cab to our hotel cause we were all dead beat and tired. When we reached the hotel, it was already about 2am and we had to wake up at about 7.30am because we were scheduled for a tour around Hong Kong Market. But in the end we decided to skip the tour cause we were still feeling tired. But we had to be at the Hong Kong Ferry Terminal cause we were going to Macau for a one night stay. In the afternoon we took our luggages and left the hotel early cause we wanted to roam around by ourselves for a while before going to the terminal. Getting around Hong Kong was easy cause my mum was a chinese and could speak fluent cantonese cause my grandmother was one. At about 4pm we reached the ferry terminal and left for Macau. We reached Macau at about 6.15pm and went to our hotel put down our luggage in our rooms and went for dinner we stayed in a hotel where there was a casino so basically the hotel was lit up with so many lights and it was noisy so we decided to go around the streets for dinner. After a hearty dinner, we went back to sleep and wait for the next day to come cause there was going to be a city tour of Macau. During the city tour of Macau the next day, we went to many places but the place that i enjoyed the most was a hotel called "The Venetian". The hotel was a very grand place to be in. It was said to be like a hotel in Italy which was quite true because it looked very grand. But that was not the best part. The was a floor on the hotel that looked like a street in Italy. It was so real cause there were streetlights and the ceiling was painted like a sky and there was a river going around the floor in the middle and there were gondola rides for the tourists. But time was passing fast so we had catch back to Hong Kong.
It was already in evening when we reached and a friend of my mum picked us up to go for dinner and a little sightseeing. We decided to go to Victoria Peak at about 9.30pm so we went to have a good dinner and went up to the peak. When i arrived at the peak, i was so amazed by the sight cause you could see many buildings and they were all being lit up and night. It was such a beautiful sight which could not be described cause i have never ever seen a sight like that. It was getting late and we had to go back to the hotel cause it was already past midnight.
The next day we had to wake up early in the morning cause we were going to Hong Kong Disneyland. But we went for breakfast at a diner nearby the hotel it was a Hong Kong Style breakfast so i thought it would be pretty similar caused they served us bread, eggs and sausages but when i took a bread bite out the bread i was completely freaked out caused it tasted so sweet it was like eating five teaspoons of sugar at one go. So i looked in it there was butter and jam which was normal but there was condensed milk in it as well. I immediately stayed away from the bread and ate my eggs and sausages. I never knew that people in Hong Kong like bread with condensed milk to me, its pretty disgusting cause it was way too sweet but maybe Hong Kong didn't people didn't feel that way i still left the bread uneaten. Time was passing and it time to go to Disneyland. When we reached there i felt that it was such a colourful and vibrant place cause there were a bunch of flowers and plants which made Mickey's face. There so many rides there that my cousin practically rid everyone of them except the non thrilling rides. It was such a beautiful place as you get take pictures with your favourite characters. But it was getting late and we had to go back early cause we had to pack our bags and the next day.
The next day came, i felt happy and sad at the same time cause my holiday was ending which meant i had to go back and start studying but i was happy cause i missed uing the computer alot and i also wished to see my friends. By the time we reached home it was already in the evening and i immediately got home and jumped on my bed and went to sleep without even taking off my shoes cause i was so tired after my exciting trip.
